Alipay extends reach to eZ Cash points in partnership with Dialog Axiata

Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, partnered China’s leading third-party online payment solution, Alipay, to extend the eZ Cash platform to Chinese tourists in Sri Lanka. Through its first partnership in Sri Lanka, Alipay intends to expand reach by leveraging Dialog’s multiple merchants and touchpoints, extending payment services to Chinese visitors in Sri Lanka.

With over 700 million active registered users in mainland China, Alipay is an alternative cashless payment system predominantly used by Chinese public and offers the convenience of payment services without the need for large amounts of cash. Alipay, the Alibaba affiliated mobile payments arm of China’s Ant Financial Services Group, is the highest valued Fintech company in the world and continues to follow Chinese tourists, with its most recent expansion to enter Sri Lanka through a strategic partnership with Dialog.

Alipay will leverage Dialog’s 20,000 strong eZ Cash retail partner network across Sri Lanka. The Alipay mobile wallet service will now be available at merchants to cater to the needs of Alipay users from China, who frequently travel and shop in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the exchange of agreements, Dr. Cherry Huang, General Manager for Alipay Cross-border Business in South and Southeast Asia, said, “The partnership with Dialog will enable Alipay payment acceptance at a large base of local merchants, creating opportunities for local merchants to better target the large number of visiting Chinese tourists and expatriates living in Sri Lanka.”

eZ Cash Incorporates Lamudi as a Payment Partner

Sri Lanka’s pioneering and largest mobile money network, eZ Cash has announced the addition of Lamudi, as its most recent payment partner. Lamudi is an online platform dedicated to helping users find real estate, houses, apartments and land or commercial properties based on budget, location, square footage etc. Users may now pay for the basic advertising listing that costs Rs. 4,000 while a premium listing or featured listing will cost an additional Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 4,000 respectively, using eZ Cash.

For the first time in Sri Lanka, eZ Cash Launches ‘Top-up’ via Bank accounts

Sri Lanka’s first and largest Mobile Money and Payment Service, eZ Cash, announced the launch of a new feature that enables customers to top-up their eZ Cash wallets via bank accounts on its cutting edge eZ Cash app. The Bank top up feature supplements the recently introduced QR Scan and pay option which enables smart and convenient money transfer amongst eZ Cash customers or payments across the expansive eZ Cash Merchant network.

This feature will be available via the eZ Cash app on any smartphone, and enable eZ Cash customers to use their current and savings bank accounts to top-up the eZ Cash wallet at no transaction fee. The new feature enables enhanced convenience, providing customers access to top-up anytime, anywhere. Customers are required to select the ‘Top-up from Bank Account’ icon on their eZ Cash app interface, verify bank details and register, enter the amount and simply Top-up their digital eZ Cash wallet. Currently all banks integrated with JustPay platform of Lanka Clear will be accessible for eZ cash top-up. The feature is facilitated by LankaClear, a company co-owned by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) and all Licensed Commercial Banks operating in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Channa de Silva, General Manager/CEO – LankaClear stated, “In an era where digital payment modes are gaining popularity worldwide, LankaClear has laid the foundation by establishing LankaPay National Payment Network to support platforms such as eZ Cash to move Sri Lanka towards a less cash society. Dialog has enabled the JustPay payment mode of LankaClear for all eZ Cash subscribers, thus, providing further convenience and ease of access for top-up, anytime, anywhere for all its customers. Further, added security for all electronic transactions is ensured via the digital certificates issued by LankaSign Certification Service Provider (CSP) managed by LankaClear.”

Transactions via eZ Cash will conform to the highest level of Mobile Payment security standards. All transactions will be PIN protected and secured by Triple Data Encryption Algorithm widely known as 3DES authentication and transaction security protocols. Top-ups will be further validated via a confirmation SMS being transmitted instantly to customer.

Dialog′s ′Digital Transformation Initiative′ Leapfrogs toward Digital and Financial Inclusion in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka′s premier connectivity provider‚ Dialog Axiata PLC and Australia′s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) collaborate to pilot a digital payment platform roll out across 200 ATM locations in Sri Lanka′s Northern Province. The announcement was made today at the launch ceremony held in Jaffna.

With LKR 60 million from DFAT′s Business Partnerships Platform and LKR 91 million of its own funding‚ Dialog intends to reach and support underbanked communities with its state-of-the-art digital payment retail system.

Customers in 200 locations will be able to withdraw money via eZ Cash across a wide network of corner stores and ATMs by just using their mobile phones. eZ Cash is a mobile wallet‚ which is licensed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Customers can easily transact on-the-go and pay for goods‚ services and mobile reloads. Also‚ eZ cash customers can send and receive money between any mobile phone in Sri Lanka. Pensioners across Sri Lanka can now receive their monthly pension disbursements directly to their mobile wallet‚ following an innovative partnership between the country′s largest mobile money network‚ eZ Cash‚ and the Department of Pensions. The ground breaking partnership empowers any pensioner connected to the Dialog‚ Etisalat or Hutch mobile networks to receive a self-defined portion of their pension to their mobile phone.

Pensioners from across Sri Lanka can now enable this service by submitting the relevant authorisation documents to the Department of Pensions. The pensioner is empowered to request up to Rs. 25‚000 from their pension to be remitted instantly to their eZ Cash account. eZ Cash Sri Lanka′s premier Mobile Money service partners with Sri Lanka′s largest private sector bank‚ Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC‚ to give eZ Cash customers the ability to withdraw cash from selected ATMs island wide. The service will be extended to all ATMs of Commercial Bank in the near future.

Commercial Bank operates the country′s single largest ATM network‚ and the largest online 24-hour cash-dispensing system in the country. With this facility‚ in addition to the 20‚000 retail points‚ eZ Cash account holders can withdraw money at their convenience from any Commercial Bank ATMs displaying the eZ Cash logo. The minimum withdrawal value is Rs. 100 and the maximum is Rs. 5‚000 during a single transaction.

Through the partnership between Commercial Bank and eZ Cash‚ the bank has enabled Mobile Banking customers with eZ Cash accounts; the flexibility to top up their mobile wallets via a mobile and online portal. Commercial Bank customers can simply dial #8823# from their Dialog‚ Etisalat or Hutch mobiles and follow the simple instructions that appear on the screen‚ whilst the online service can be accessed by visiting Commercial Bank's client login home page on its website upon registration.

Sri Lanka′s pioneering mobile money service‚ eZ Cash‚ now enables subscribers to receive foreign remittances to their eZ Cash mobile wallet. eZ Cash – the world′s first inter-operable mobile payment system - is available to 14 million Dialog‚ Etisalat and Hutch subscribers in Sri Lanka‚ and the ability to electronically receive money to their mobile phone from anywhere in the world will significantly enhance the convenience of receiving inward remittances.

Inward Foreign remittances to eZ Cash mobile wallets has been made possible via the partnership between eZ Cash and HomeSend‚ a joint venture created by MasterCard‚ eServGlobal and BICS (Belgarcom International Carrier Services) that enables cross-border and cross-network value transfers.

The partnership allows persons resident overseas to transfer funds direct to an eZ Cash mobile money account facilitating cash out at participating locations.

Dialog and Etisalat to Deliver end-to-end Mobile Money Inter-Operability on eZ Cash

Etisalat Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and Dialog Axiata PLC announced Monday 24th March that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka had approved and endorsed the extension of the eZ Cash Mobile Money Platform to Etisalat.

This world's first partnership between two mobile giants‚ Dialog and Etisalat Lanka‚ will enable over 60 per cent of the total mobile subscriber base in Sri Lanka to access and transact via eZ Cash mobile money accounts. The combined subscriber base of Dialog and Etisalat Lanka counting over 12.7 million‚ can now deposit‚ send and receive money‚ and conduct transactions across a portfolio of over 16‚000 eZ Cash merchants providing top up‚ withdrawal and over the counter transactions‚ and over 100 online/web merchants providing online transaction capabilities via Etisalat and Dialog mobile phones. The eZ Cash service also extends a comprehensive portfolio of e-Government‚ Utility Bill and Insurance Premium Payment services via the mobile phone.

"The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has been focused on the institution of best practices in policy and regulation with respect to Mobile Money Services‚ as an integral component of our Financial Inclusion thrust‚" said the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka‚ Ajith Nivard Cabraal. "I am very pleased to note that the mobile money eco-system in Sri Lanka has achieved end-to-end inter-operability and our team at the Central Bank will continue to drive towards transformational outcomes from the proliferation of inclusive financial services."

Following the progressive and beachhead action by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka‚ Dialog and Etisalat will together deliver the world's first-ever fully interoperable mobile money service. "This is a good example of how mobile network operators are working together and innovating to provide financial services via mobile to more of their customers‚" said Seema Desai‚ Head of Mobile Money‚ GSM Association. "The GSMA is working with players across the industry to advance the conversation on interoperability‚ and support more markets to innovate and launch interoperable mobile money services."

Dialog introduced eZ Cash‚ Sri Lanka's first mobile money service in June 2012 under the aegis of the Payments and Settlements Act No. 28 of 2005. Custodial Banking Services for eZ Cash are provided by Hatton National Bank PLC‚ and further secured by a trust agreement administered by Deutsche Bank AG.
